Arlington once belonged to the District of Colombia but was given back to the state of Virginia in the early 1800s by Congress. One of the most famous places in Arlington is the national cemetery were over 300,000 men and women, the majority from the armed services, are buried. The Pentagon is also located in Arlington along with the popular visited Marine Corps Iwo Jima memorial. Arlington nightlife and dining is mostly directed to downtown D.C., where many more options are available. However, small cafes and shops can be found scattered around the area.
